Universal Drumming – Liberia, West Africa
Every culture in the world drums, and we’ll explore a few of them! Join us to celebrate rhythms and cultures in the Universal Drumming series.
This week, we’re “traveling” to Liberia, West Africa! We’ll be learning a Liberian welcoming rhythm made popular by Babatunde Olatunji called ‘Fanga Alafia.’
Drumming is truly a universal language. It’s a language that spans multiple continents and millennia. Every culture drums!
In each class of the Universal Drumming Series, you’ll travel with Jeni Swerdlow to those places through the beat of the drums, exploring the different rhythms played by cultures from around the world.
From Baladi of Egypt to Dancehall of Jamaica, you’ll learn new things, and have fun doing it! Open to ALL levels, this is a safe, supportive environment for us to bring our unique sounds.
Please bring a drum if you have one (djembe, dunun or similar) or rent one from Jeni. Chairs are limited so bring your own seat or chair if you can.
REGISTER NOW! Tickets are $40 at the door but only $35 in advance!
Need-based partial scholarships and work-trade are available. Please reach out to jeni@drummm.com for availability.
